It is a kind of fairly out there treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories.

The dual activity of thinking about a distressing memory and rapidly moving the eyes from side to side appears to reduce the level of emotion in the memory. Loads of people are reporting benefits from the exercise today. Many people believe everyone can emdr therapy at home and youtube has tons of info on the subject. You can walk through a forest with loads of trees wizzing by and get a release that is similar to what you would get from doing EMDR in a therapeutic environment. What we do know is that at the end of the day all therapy is more or less the same. You swop the bad for the good. You become more aware and conscious of what is going on and heal from that standpoint. If you fear elevators you need to confront them. So it is with trauma and anxiety too. When you dream your eyes make the same movements. It may just be to declutter the garbage and allow for more awareness. CBT after all is just about swopping bad for good. So keep it simple in your head.

EMDR is a therapy in which a trained therapist works with a client to address the disturbing memory or thought that triggers anxiety by reducing the emotional, mental, and physical reaction to it. Over the course of multiple sessions, the therapist and client work together to improve symptoms of anxiety and replace the negative feelings associated with the memory with a positive thought to undo the trauma it has caused.

If you try EMDR therapy at home it should at least demonstrate that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes.  The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health.  If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering.  Once the block is removed, healing resumes.  OPTIC FLOW can be defined as the motion of all the surface elements from the visual world. As you move through the world, the objects and surfaces within the visual environment flow around you.
